“Barrel Children” is a term used in Jamaica to describe children whose parents have gone abroad for financial reasons and send barrels full of material goods as a substitute in their absence. This project addresses issues of how economic conditions (lack of opportunities) effect social relationships (parent/child relationships, incomplete parenting resulting in incomplete child development; effects on social and psychological conditions), literacy, language, identity, consumption, and creativity.
