Log Rhythms is a continuation of Berlier’s kinetic sound sculptures, using thin cross sections of trees that reveal their inner rings. The “tree cookies” are used to observe and record the specific ring patterns of each. Working with the Laboratory for Tree-Ring Research at the University of Arizona where dendrochronologists are extracting extensive information from trees including fire burn histories, drought patterns and climate change. Berlier has converted the visual patterns of these cookies into sound.
