Pan lids, telephone speakers, sound, speaker wire, amplifier
13’ x 12’ x 13’
2003
This installation started as a flippant response to the Jamaican saying that “two pan tops can’t meet” or as translated to me from Jamaican patios as “two vaginas can’t come together”. A sound piece composed of both the altered saying “two pan tops CAN meet” and found pan lid sounds loop on a 20-minute cycle. These discarded pan lids signify the confrontation of cultural differences, more specifically queerness and homophobia.
